It’s my birthday…

I don’t know what is more sad – the fact that I have spent the entire day completing the week 1 readings for GDT3102 Writing for Games unit and then writing up my summaries on my birthday, or the fact that I forgot it was my birthday until about mid day…

On reflection, what is probably more sad is that being “middle aged” means I don’t really care whether it is my birthday or not…

BTW: reading contractions in formal documents is  annoying

  1. Happy Birthday (belated).

I can feel an academic birthday coffee coming on. :)

  2. Thank you for the (belated) birthday wishes!

A belated academic birthday coffee it will need to be – I am reading “The Ego and the ID” at the moment before going out to lunch with the olds. Then more reading of Freud to round the day off.

  4. Please, do not envy me but rather pity me – or at least applaud me as I have finally managed to get through:

17 pages on “Studies On Hysteria” (which at least did find application to associations in Vertigo),

44 pages on “The Ego and the ID” which was extremely long winded, confusing and far from succinct,

then finally 20 pages on “The Dissection of the Psychical Personality” which took the form of a lecture Freud gave in 1933 and, and for this I feel really ripped-off, actually explained what he was on about in the preceding 44 pages I had to read!

In all, around 10+ hours to read and sort of comprehend. I will do a blog sometime as to what Freud proposes the id, ego and super-ego is, along with conscious, unconscious and preconscious states.

Now, if only the reading we were provided with cited where it was from!
