Grand

‘Grand’ was written around ten years ago – inspired by TV series theme music which, at the time, all seemed to sound the same as the TV series all seemed to be produced by the same person. Last month I gave it new life with Garritan Personal Orchestra (GPO) as I hadn’t purchased Independence at that stage. Have just tried some key-switching on the solo cello to see whether I could get more realism out of the cello – Independence is more believable sound wise however does not feature solo strings instruments but rather string sections, so GPO it had to be for this track… Piano from GPO as are the strings – the vocals are from a soundfont…

Strings in D minor

Strange how you can ‘hear’ something in your head and worry that what you are hearing might be someone else’s song – this composition I thought might be The Beatles “Dear Prudence” for a while, however upon entering the notes it took a life of its own… simple repetitive progression from D minor to A. All strings from Independence 1.5…

Shirtless theme

I have no idea what “Shirtless” is or will be – I assume it is a short film – however a friend, geoffrey.com.au/, who has entry level knowledge of music, although who has found a new passion to create music for his films, gave me a MIDI file of scratchings of some theme music. I really liked some of the ideas he had, (I hadn’t heard his version – just played the MIDI file) so I arranged the ideas, wrote bass and sax lines and then let Jamstix do its work (along with some editing)… Instruments from Independence 1.5 as well as the previously mentioned Jamstix… You can hear Ed’s original version here.

Chamber music for Celesta, Organ and Strings

A bit more of a descriptive title this time – was going to be called “G7″ but there wasn’t a lot of G7 in the composition… so, it is chamber music containing celesta, organ and full string section. Celesta from Garritan Personal Orchestra, everything else from Independence 1.5…

C-G-Bb-F – full orchestra version

A full orchestra version of the previous “C-G-Bb-F” composition. Replaced the ‘retro’ arpeggiator sound with arpeggiated piano. All instruments from Yellow Tools Independence 1.5 apart from the Harp from Garritan Personal Orchestra…

C-G-Bb-F sequence

Based upon a chordal progression on acoustic guitar I wrote around 1989. Entered it into Cubase and then thought I would try an arpeggiator out in Independence 1.5. The Harp is from Garritan Personal Orchestra and lots of strings from Independence in this version – currently working on a version with full orchestration…

A minor/G

A composition that is kind of intended for the movie “3″ – it has an odd dischordant sound to it in parts before going into a simple A minor to G sequence. A middle section was added for contrast – a third phrase as such. Uses Independence 1.5 – love the sound of the ‘electric piano’ – very inspiring.

blah blah blah blah

Something I was toying around with before purchasing Garritan Personal Orchestra and Independence 1.5. Used a combination of sound fonts, free VST instruments and real drum loops. The real drum loops needed a lot of editing to get the timing right. I re-vamped the piece later with the Garritan VST as well as overlaying Jamstix drum VST over the drum loops. As a result it it is a bit of a “dog’s breakfast” sound wise

Major 7

A chordal progression I wrote in my teens – perhaps around 1978 – I was trying out ‘jazz’ chords, or what I thought were jazz chords – lots of major 7s as well as other things that sounded nice on acoustic guitar. The instrumental on top I wrote in my 20′s – strangely I could remember most of it all these years later. Uses Independence 1.5 and Jamstix as the VST instruments..

Composition in ‘D’

A combination of two pieces in the key of D I wrote in my teens – probably around 1979 or 1980 or so. Combined here as they were so similar in some ways. Uses Independence Free 2.0 and Jamstix VST instruments…

Song for Sam

A composition originally written on 12 string guitar around 1989 or 1990 – inspired by a blonde girl by the name of Sam whom I met at art school. Of all the female inspired pieces I wrote back then it is the only one I remember how to play – the others I just remember writing them. Independence Free 2.0 and Jamstix VST instruments.

7/8

Something in 7/8 timing based upon a rhythm I developed in the early 1990′s. I wanted to try a 4/4 drum pattern on the 7/8 timing to get that on-beat then off-beat effect that Led Zeppelin used so effectively – not that this sounds anything like Led Zep! Uses Yellow Tools Independence Free 2.0 – which is free but a bit of a memory hog compared to Independence 1.0/1.5 which is not free…

‘Three’ extended

An extended version of “Dirge” for the movie “3″ – not certain that this will suit the movie however as it gets a little too ‘hopeful’ which is not what “3″ needs…

Dirge

A quirky piece using Garritan Personal Orchestra that may be used in an Edwin Lynch movie titled “3″…

Country-Bop

A twelve bar I wrote on piano in my teens – sometime back in the 1970′s. Finally ‘recorded’ some 30 years later using piano from Garritan Personal Orchestra as well as some other free VST instruments.
